Practicing wine tasting the right way

Of the career paths one could take, have you ever heard of a rather obscure profession called the sommelier? Chances are you haven’t. Well, a sommelier is someone who works in fine dining restaurants and specializes in a rather special niche known as wine tasting.

Steps to tasting wine
The four steps to tasting wine are discussed below.
• Step one – Look:
The first method of reviewing any product, whether it be a beverage or a food item, is to take a good hard look at it from the outside. It is best preferred to look at the wine under your inspection under neutral lighting so that you can gauge it perfectly. Most information regarding the wine can be found on the bottle, so this first step shouldn’t take you too long.
• Step two – smell:
The next step is to smell the wine to have a good idea of what ingredients are present. Look for the smell of fruits first. Try to be broad with your guesses instead of guessing each specific fruit. Generally, there are three types of aromas for you to look out for:
• Primary aromas, which are primarily derived from grapes
• Secondary aromas are derived from yeast and yeast-based products.
• Tertiary aromas are mostly savory. For example, vanilla and roasted nuts.
• Step three – Taste:
Here comes the fun part. Tasting a glass of wine isn’t just drinking it and seeing if it tastes good or not. It’s also about analyzing ingredients. Most wines have a sour flavor about them. You can also expect to find a little salty taste too. Taste can vary depending on the climate.
• Step four – review:
Now is the time for you to look back and reflect on your wine tasting. See if you liked the wine and see what can be improved.
With constant practice, one can become an expert wine taster.
